Hope

Updated: Nov 18, 2023

Jotting the tricky nature of hope, Nikhil Narayanasa, through his poem “Hope”, explains how he has been deceived by it in his moments of need.

Recalling how hope seems like an oasis when sought but is nothing more than a mirage when desired, the poet talks about how easily most of us fall for it. However, he doesn’t forget to emphasise that this hope motivates us to achieve anything in our lives.

I’m a lone sailor in the waters

You have been the wind

To raise my sails up

And then rip me apart

You pick me up from the sea

Threw me into sands

Making me thirsty and starving

While I plead,

You seem like an oasis

But when I seek for your help

You become a mirage

You are farther than Sun

Farther than the stars

Yet, seems nearer than the moon

In my dream

You kept me going.

Until my last breath

Until ever after...
